Hello seekers of greater wellness!
Unless you live in a densely populated area like New York City with subways, taxis, and buses everywhere, you probably own some sort of motorized transportation. The types, makes, models, available options – – countless! Sedans, SUVs, trucks, motorcycles, RVs. Compact, mid-size, full size, luxury. Gas, diesel, electric, hybrid. Accessories, colors, etc, etc, etc. We have all these choices that can drive us crazy. Our decisions should be based on a means of transportation that gets our family and friends to destinations with reliability, safety, and comfort with durability (it’s gonna last a few years).
What if we thought of our body as a:
VEHICLE? Which it is! Our body is the vehicle for our mind, the Command Center. Our mind processes our thoughts and turns them into emotions and actions which our body plays out. If something makes me sad, my mind instructs my body to get into the “sad” mode. If I want to go hiking up a Colorado mountain, my mind gives my body the instructions to get moving. The mind can have grandiose ideas, but it’s up to the body to speak, read, write, move, etc etc to make the command happen.
You know where this is going! How well is your “vehicle” performing? Is it able to do all the things you want it to do, now and years into the future? The problem: we can be focused on the appearance of the outside of our vehicles more than the functioning of the inside. Our motor vehicles can have loads of exterior options and bells and whistles per our personal specifications, but it’s the engine that gets us out of the garage. The same is so true of our body. We can be so focused on what our “vehicle” looks like, we can forget it’s primary function: to get us where we want to go, to do the things we want to do – for a long time.
While my 2007 SUV with 234,000 miles does still look pretty cool, it’s the engine, steering, and tires that are important. I want it to get me where I want to go. That’s why I devote time to maintaining it, changing the oil and filters regularly, rotating the tires, having my mechanic check things out if I hear a noise that’s unusual. I also don’t want to abuse it by doing things to it that accelerate the wear and tear, like pulling a heavier load than it was designed to take on. The same is true of my body. It’s the proper functioning of its 11 systems that I’m focused on. While I do care about my personal exterior appearance, that’s not what is going to to help me carry out my mission in life. A maintenance schedule of routine exercise and meditation, along with high quality fuel composed of healthy foods in the right amounts will get me a lot of mileage by preventing disease and slowing down the aging process.
The question for all of us: Are we taking optimal care of our primary vehicle that is working to carry out our mind’s commands and wishes? Our bodies would greatly appreciate a Command Center that sends out improved operating instructions so it can take on life like a high performance vehicle. It’s about living WELL aware!
