This was the month for record breaking sports comebacks.  You may be thinking:  This is a wellness blog.  Why is Dr. Sulak writing about sports?  There were several great examples this month of individuals and teams being down, way behind, but still able to:

PERSEVERE and win.   At the U. S. Tennis Open men’s final,  Dominic Thiem came back from being 2 sets down to beat Alexander Zverev in a hard-fought back-and-forth 5th set.  In the NBA, the LA Clippers were down 3 games to 1 in their last 2 series of the playoffs with the Utah Jazz and then the Denver Nuggets, going on to beat BOTH of them.  No team in a major sport has ever done this twice in a playoff series.

What if we looked at our life with the goal of coming from behind, never giving up, winning?  “Winning” being defined by YOU!  What would a winning life be like?  Since there are 5 aspects of wellness (physical, emotional, social, financial, spiritual), you would need to score high in all of them to have a championship “wellness” life.  It’s like an Olympic Wellness Pentathlon.  And by financial wellness, I’m not talking about mega-wealth.  I’m referring to being able to live within your means and be at peace with your finances.  There are too many multimillionaires (even billionaires) who are not well, not happy, not at peace, continually stressed out over what “might” happen!

Life is a lot like sports.  There are rules we have to live by to play successfully, to win.  There are known strategies to be our best.  And like many sports, there is a time limit when the game is over.  For each of us, we just don’t know how much time we have!  If we keep putting off upping our wellness game, we are missing out on the amazing life we were created to have.  Importantly, the world is missing out.  When we are at our best in ALL aspects of wellness, we make this place a better world.

In the game of life, we are actually competing against ourselves.  The Goal:  Getting as close as we can to that incredible person we can be.  We may be way behind in one or more areas of life, but if we persevere, we can make an amazing comeback that people will be talking about for a long time.  We will be an inspiration that “it can be done.”  Get back on the court.  Get out on the wellness field.  That’s living WELL Aware!
