I recently came across a saying that I found intriguing: “Show me your friends, and I’ll show you your future.” That makes a lot of sense. We have a tendency to associate with people with similar beliefs, behaviors, and interests. While I am truly blessed to have many wonderful friends who continue to positively impact my life, my future is more influenced by whom I:
FOLLOW. Today, there are numerous platforms for us to “follow” people. Facebook has “Friends.” Twitter has “Followers.” There’s Instagram, SnapChat, TikTok, LinkedIn, and other media outlets. Whom and How do you “FOLLOW?” It’s a critical question because it influences all areas of our life.
Our health and happiness is determined by how well we are doing in each of the 5 aspects of wellness. Who is influencing us and how is it affecting the quality of our life? My husband and I are very selective about whom we keep on our radar and the amount of time we spend doing so. Why? Because it rules our life. In the pursuit of wellness, we are continually exposed to people selling ideas and products they claim are scientifically proven – but are anything but that. The goal: Find the best people to follow. Physically, we follow people who are experts in health and fitness. They don’t know us, but we know them. Emotionally, we follow people who are at peace and full of joy, handling obstacles with ease as they deal with the realities of life. Again, they don’t personally know us, but we “follow” them. Socially, we focus on connecting with people who inspire us to be better human beings. We make an effort to get together with them and get on each others calendars – safely during this pandemic. Financially, we search out individuals who are at the top of their game, making prudent decisions. Spiritually, we are daily followers of a higher power who knows the way and has all the answers.
Who do you follow? Are you truly following those who can improve your existence? If yes, do you find yourself wandering off their path? WE ALL DO! That’s OK. Get back on the path and continue to follow. The goal: get healthier and happier and then your family, friends, and coworkers can follow YOU. You are now leading by example as a result of following those who can help you be the best version you are capable of being with the life you deserve.
